Jesus commanded believers to focus on spiritual realities and to set their hearts on heaven, not earth. If you really do this, you will surely be willing to invest all your time and energy in all that heaven has to offer instead or seeking earthly riches.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
Yes, you still should set money aside for retirement. Surely don’t give all your life savings away to missions and have nothing left to sustain you in your old age. The key is, you should still invest heavily in spiritual things.
I’m seeing so many people who are giving everything they have to the Mega Churches and are preaching a false doctrine. People end up giving away life savings to the already rich so called pastors and end up having nothing left to live on. Others tend to spend so much money on materialistic items that has no value in heaven. Most of us are caught up on living a lavish life and don’t realize that you can’t take the things of this world to heaven with you. Stay focused on storing up your treasures in heaven instead of this earth!

Thank you for sharing! “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33, ESV). In reading your post, I was brought back to my prayer time a couple of days ago. It comes from Psalm 73:16-17 (ESV, Study Notes):
“I Found the Answer in the Sanctuary. To walk around with such an inner conflict is deeply painful, made worse by how wearisome it is to understand this: it seems impossible. But when the singer goes into the sanctuary of God, the holy place where God’s people gather for worship, the light is finally allowed to break through. The key is to contemplate the end (the outcome) of the lives of the arrogant and the faithful.” Kingdom thoughts! Amen!!

Hope you don’t mind Marlon but this post brings to mind a story a friend told me. There was a rich man who had a very reliable servant. The servant was always telling his employer how important it was to invest in the well being of others and he would have treasure in heaven. How if he would look to serving others he would be blessed beyond belief more than all his wealth he had now. Well the servant died and a few years later the rich man died as well.
As the rich man was walking around he noticed a huge mansion with many rooms, even more than what he had on earth and standing outside was his servant who ran to meet him! The rich man was so happy to see him and said “It looks like you did very well to have such a bigger place than what I had for you to work at” the servant said ….. I do not work here, I live here!
The rich man then could not wait until he saw the place prepared just for him, surely it would be just as beautiful and unbelievable!!!! the servant and he started to walk down the streets made of gold with each mansion it seemed even more and more beautiful as they walked until they came upon a shack and the servant stopped. Here is your reward….. The rich man said what is this? The servant replied this is your home.
You see all that talk you laughed at me about the giving to others and helping the less fortunate was all true and as we help the less fortunate we send up material for our eternal home and you spent all you had building bigger barns and homes,and putting as much money in the bank as you could. The rich man walked away deeply saddened for not listening to his servant who TURNED OUT TO BE a servant of Christ!
Our telling of the word of God and living by example truly will reap a reward from the hand of God one day! We must never be ashamed of the gospel of Christ. God Bless and keep you Always Marlon. Thank you for jarring my memory.

Amen! Yes, as followers of Christ we are not living for this world, but we are still living in it. And though we need to submit to the godly authority of the church leadership, we should be able to recognize a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It’s about being wise and having a balanced perspective, and not just blindly following prescribed rules.
